My six months old is starting to consume solid.  I prefer giving her homemade cereal to the commercial infant rice cereal which  is usually low in protein and high in carbohydrates. It is often mixed with varying amounts of formulated milk or sugar. Alternatively, I  give  her fruit like avocado, banana or veggie like sweet potato which also make great first foods for baby.

This is a picture of millet. I bought this from an organic shop.

Why Millet for Baby?

Millet is rich in B vitamins, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and is even considered a good protein source. Millet is very versatile and may be used as a cereal.

The mixture of rice and millet. I blended the portion of one cup millet and half cup rice.  Blend them together until it turns into power or you may make it a little bit rougher. I found that my little girl prefer the fine and smooth texture cereal. Beside, the finer the cereal, the shorter cooking time it takes.

I fond of using slow cooker to prepare rice-millet cereal.

My recipe of pumpkin rice-millet cereal.

1 tablespoon of mixed rice-millet

4 cubes of pumpkin

3oz water

Put all the ingredients above to cook in a slow cooker until it soft. It takes about 2 hours.

Rice-millet cereal with pumpkin. Alternatively, I cooked it with spinach, fish or lentils.
