Home Preschool Play
By: Erica Sam

Nowadays when I’m busy in the kitchen, my 2 year old daughter loves to imitate me, such as cutting vegetables. She is in a period where she wants to explore and experience everything “adult”. By imitating my actions, she is developing her manipulative skills and hand eye-coordination.

Giving her a sharp steel knife is out of the question. Normally, I’ll sit her near me with a plastic knife and chopping board. I’ll give her some firm but not hard fruit, such as a banana or papaya. As her skills improve, I’ll graduate her to a metal butter knife and some harder fruits such as apples and oranges.

There seems to be little time for play, and play develops important physical skills in a toddler. This home preschool play is suitable for busy parents, who want to entertain and develop their toddlers at the same time.
